Happy Monday! Today we’re looking at Liriope, also known as Lilyturf (although it is not a true grass or a lily). These are flowering perennials native to East and Southeast Asia and are a very popular ground cover plant in Louisiana. Most liriope do well in full- partial sun, and here in the south, can benefit from afternoon shade. They need well-draining soil, as they do not tolerate constantly wet soil. This also means it can be drought tolerant.
Fertilize your liriope once a year in the spring with a slow-release landscape fertilizer for best health.
If you’re looking for a ground cover that tolerates the dry season, this purple plant might be the one for you. Make sure to follow and like to see more tips from the landscape and pest world.
