Summer is gone, and we are well into fall. If you haven’t turned off your irrigation systems yet, you need to now. Our area is well watered at the moment, with the rain and humidity we’ve been having, as well as the temperature change. Watering your grass right now would be a waste of money. Not to mention, this would over-water your lawn.

One of the biggest risks of an over-watered lawn is lawn fungus. Brown patch and take-all root rot love moisture, and thrive on over-watered grass. If you notice spots in your yard like pictured below, it could be fungus. Lawn fungus can take out your entire lawn if left untreated.

For now, just turn your sprinklers off, and look out for early signs of fungus. If you’re worried your grass won’t get enough water without it, invest in a rain gauge. Your grass only needs 1 inch of water per week. If you receive that right now through rain, then you’re set and don’t need any extra water.
