It’s time to fertilize your grass! When choosing a fertilizer, it’s important to know what type of grass you have so you know the correct amount of nitrogen to use during the growing season. If you take a look at any fertilizer bag you’ll see a set of three numbers. The one number we are concerned with is the first number, which is 32 in this example. This means that 32% of what’s in that bag is nitrogen. Now, let’s say we’re wanting to treat a 1,000 square foot area with one pound of nitrogen. Do a little magic, or math (you decide!), and you come up with 3.2 pounds of fertilizer mix for that 1,000 square foot area.
Knowing your grass requirements also helps you get the results you want. If you use too much fertilizer, you could wind up with fertilizer burn. If you treat it with too little, you may not see the results you want.
