As we get closer to February, it’s important to think about trimming roses. Knockout roses are to be trimmed twice yearly- in February and August. To trim roses by hand, make sure to wear garden gloves, and use trimming sheers to cut your rose bush to about half its size. You’ll also want to trim any dead stems or limbs that don’t fit the overall shape you’re going for. While trimming, check for any signs of rose rosette (overly thorny, deep red and jagged leaves, buds that never bloom).
