Periodical cicadas have started emerging across the country, so here are 5 interesting facts about cicadas.
Many are excited about 17-year cicadas, which are found across the Southeast and Midwest, although in Northwest, LA we have 13-year cicadas emerging.
Cicadas do not bite or sting, and pose little to no threat to humans. They’re considered a nuisance pest due to their numbers and loud “singing”. Periodical cicadas emerge in the hundreds or thousands per acre, and are characterized by their black bodies and striking orange eyes. These are not to be confused by annual cicadas, which are green and black and emerge every year.
