Wasp Hiding Places

Summer is here and wasps are active everywhere. One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes their nests are tucked away where you can’t see them until they get disturbed. Dylan is here to tell us more!

Where Wasps Hide in Summer — And How to Avoid Them

Summer is peak season for wasps—and unfortunately, they’re not just buzzing around flowers. As temperatures rise, wasps become more active and start seeking out sheltered spots to build their nests. Knowing where they like to hide can help you avoid unpleasant surprises.

Common Wasp Hiding Spots:

  • In Parts of Fences: Wasps can build nests tucked away in the boards of fences or gates and get disturbed when they’re opened.
  • Under Eaves and Rooflines: These protected areas provide shade and security for building nests.
  • Outdoor Furniture: Wasps love to crawl under cushions or nest inside hollow tubing.
  • Grill Covers & Play Equipment: If something’s been left untouched for a while, it’s a perfect spot for a wasp colony.
  • Bushes and Shrubs: Dense greenery makes a great hidden location for ground nests or hanging ones.

To stay safe, inspect outdoor spaces regularly and seal any small openings around your home. If you do spot a nest, be careful when removing it yourself—if you’re concerned call a professional pest service to handle it safely.
