Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control FAQs

If you start treatment between a pre-emergent application, we will only be able to “control” weeds until the next pre-emergent application is applied. Once the weeds germinate, their seeds are in the ground and there is always a chance of weeds growing and needing to be sprayed with herbicides (weed killers). This is one of the reasons we tell our clients that it can take a full year’s worth of treatments for the program to work effectively, so please be patient. Also, with the pre-emergents we use, there will be a residual amount in the ground after the first year. Sometimes there may be a need for touching up minor weed breakthrough and insect control – please contact us if there is ever an issue so we can address it.

Lawn fertilization and weed control includes six total applications per year, aeration includes two applications per year, and fungicide includes five applications per year. The total cost for the applications is broken down into smaller monthly payments (average monthly billing).

Our lawn applications are not harmful to people or pets – just be sure to let the application dry (~30 minutes) before getting back on the lawn.

Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control Program Applications:

Application 1 (January/February): Pre-emergent & Insecticide. This application helps prevent summertime weeds from growing. Insecticide is also applied to help keep the lawn insect-free. Must be watered within 2 weeks of application. Rainwater is sufficient as long as your lawn receives at least 1/2-inch during the 2-week period. It is okay to mow after 24 hours.

Application 2 (March/April): Pre-emergent & Liquid Fertilizer. This application feeds the grass and helps prevent summertime weeds from growing. Nitrogen is applied in liquid form that will feed the grass. Must be watered within 2 weeks of application. Rainwater is sufficient as long as your lawn receives at least 1/2-inch during the 2-week period. It is okay to mow after 24 hours.

Application 3 (May/June): Slow-Release Granular Fertilizer. This application feeds the grass. Nitrogen is applied in granular form and is composed of a slow-release formula that will feed your grass over the next 180 days. Must be watered within 24 hours of application (this is a VERY important step!). We are not responsible for damage to your lawn if it is not watered correctly. It is okay to mow after 48 hours

Application 4 (July/August): Broadleaf Herbicide, Liquid Fertilizer, & Insecticide. This application focuses on weed control, feeding the grass, and protecting against insects in the lawn. Must be watered within 1 week of application. Rainwater is sufficient as long as your lawn receives at least 1/2-inch during the 1-week period. It is okay to mow after 24 hours.

Application 5 (September/October): Pre-emergent & Liquid Fertilizer. This application feeds the grass and helps prevent wintertime weeds from growing. Nitrogen is applied in liquid form that will feed the grass. Must be watered within 2 weeks of application. Rainwater is sufficient as long as your lawn receives at least 1/2-inch during the 2-week period. It is okay to mow after 24 hours.

Application 6 (November/December): Pre-emergent & Root Development Winterizer. This application helps prevent wintertime weeds from growing. It also includes Potassium, which helps with root development and therefore thickens and will help sustain the roots throughout the winter months. Thicker roots means deeper and stronger roots, which will aid in springtime greenup. Must be watered within 2 weeks of application. Rainwater is sufficient as long as your lawn receives at least 1/2-inch during the 2-week period. It is okay to mow after 24 hours.

  • Lawn treatment plans cover pest prevention for issues such as fire ants and chinch bugs. Dallisgrass is not covered in our program, as it cannot be prevented with pre-emergents (you can kill it carefully with Roundup). Due to the life cycle and chemicals available to treat some types of fungus, such as Brown Patch, which occurs in the spring and fall, additional treatments may be needed that is not covered under the normal program. If you select the optional Fungicide Package, fungus control is covered and warranties are included. We cannot be held responsible for damages that come from neglect, lack of watering, acts of God, or other damage beyond our control. Lawn care and weed prevention is a process and all applications are needed to achieve the full effects of the program.
