Picture of pine straw

Have you seen pine straw lately that looks faded and dull? This happens annually, but this year it’s happened earlier than normal. Pine straw gets bleached by the sun during summer, causing it to lighten and fade. Though we didn’t have as harsh of a summer as last year, a number of factors could have caused it to fade faster this time, including UV index, hours of sunlight, etc.

If do you notice your pine straw looking less than stellar, it’s time to refresh it. You don’t have to completely rake it out in the fall, you just need to add a layer on top to freshen it up and make it look nicer. Spring is when we completely rake it out and redo it.
