“The bitterness of a poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” -Benjamin Franklin
This is so true for so much is life. Now that spring is here it’s time to start taking care of your flower beds. New fresh mulch always makes your beds look better but be careful of the products you use. Every year this time you will start to see good deals on things like much pop up at gas stations and other street corners. While the price makes you happy, the end product will let you down. Often times these cheap mulches are made out of old pallets or left over wood chips. If they are died with a color at all it is usually a single color. What will happen is the color fades way to fast and lose its fresh look. The cheaper material also does not “mat” together as well and isn’t as effective with weed suppression. They also have a tendency to float of or wash away easier. Home Depot and Lowes both have good quality, shredded hard wood and double dyed mulches that you will be happy with.
Using quality products the first time around is true for more than just mulch. There are cheap versions of pine straw, flowers and many other things that go in your yard. Just make sure to do the job right the first time around. If you have any questions about anything in you yard, please feel free to ask in the comments.
