Apply a pre-emergent in the fall to prevent lawn stickers.
Apply a post-emergent herbicide.
Suck up the burs with a bag mower.

Ever walk in your grass barefoot and end up with a tiny, green sticker in your heel? Ouch. During spring and summer, we get asked a lot how to get rid of those horrible burs in your lawn. Burweed/lawn stickers is a winter weed that flowers in spring and drops its spiky seeds all over your yard. By far, the best way to avoid sticker weed/burweed is to apply a pre-emergent herbicide for it in the fall (September/October). This stops the weeds from ever germinating and growing.

If you miss the time frame to prevent them, you can apply a broadfleaf herbicide while the weed is immature. This would be when you notice the plant in early spring, before it makes the burs. Finally, mowing your lawn with a bagger mower might help clear out lawn stickers if you end up with them in your yard.
