Late summer is typically a time to stay indoors and enjoy the air conditioning. It’s too hot to plant most plants, so you may be wondering what you can do in your garden. Here are a few gardening tips for August.
It’s time to trim knockout and drift roses to ensure healthy new growth. You can also spray your roses for blackspot, powdery mildew, and other diseases right now.
You can also fertilize your lawn to keep it fed throughout the summer and fall. We apply a liquid fertilizer in August/September. It’s a good time to look at your grass closely to check for signs of stress or disease. Look out for highlighter green grass, brown/grayish/yellow grass, or visible insects in the lawn. These issues can look similar to one another, so we recommend making sure what you’re dealing with before treating it.
Lastly, stay on top of healthy mowing and watering to encourage a healthy yard. If you think you may be over or underwatering your lawn or plants, consider calling a professional to make sure.
